An adventure watch with a distinctive underwater feature

The HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate 2 is a smartwatch designed for diving and outdoor activities. It includes sonar-based communication between watches underwater, along with navigation tools, sports tracking, and eSIM calls. Its features include tools for diving and outdoor use, as well as everyday smartwatch functions.

GSMArena reported the HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate 2’s announcement on 19 September 2025. Its specialised features include diving and expedition tools alongside everyday smartwatch functions.

Huawei’s Mexican product page lists underwater sonar communication, diving capability to 150 metres, a 1.5-inch LTPO display and X-TAP sensors. Those specifications target a particular audience; on their own, they do not establish everyday usefulness, compatibility or the final price in each country.

How sonar messaging works

According to Huawei, the watch can exchange preset text messages and emojis with other compatible devices up to 30 metres away using sonar-based underwater communication.

For emergencies, Huawei describes an SOS signal activated by holding the upper-left button for three seconds. A companion’s watch can relay the signal once, with a stated range of up to 60 metres. That extended range is not the normal messaging range and does not guarantee that a signal will be received.

Communication depends on the environment. Huawei warns that engine noise, bubbles and physical obstacles—including reefs, boat hulls and caves—can interrupt or reduce the signal. Sonar may therefore help divers coordinate, but it does not replace dive planning, agreed signals or safety equipment.

A 150-metre rating does not make every water activity safe

Huawei says the watch complies with EN 13319 for diving and can be used for dives to 150 metres. The company also lists a 20 ATM rating under ISO 22810:2010, which indicates resistance to static water pressure at 200 metres for 10 minutes; Huawei clarifies that this does not mean the watch is suitable for actual underwater use at that depth. The stated dive limit is 150 metres.

That distinction matters when reading the specifications: the stated diving limit is 150 metres, not the 200 metres mentioned in the explanation of 20 ATM static pressure. Huawei also says water resistance can deteriorate with wear and recommends rinsing and drying the watch after water activities. It excludes certain scenarios, including hot showers, saunas, platform jumps and activities involving high-pressure water jets.

The watch displays dive data such as depth, time, speed, NDL (no-decompression limit) and PO2 (partial pressure of oxygen). Huawei says it uses the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm and provides dive-related reminders. These features offer useful information, but they are not a substitute for training, planning or instruments required for a safe dive.

Materials, display and features out of the water

Huawei describes a case made from zirconium-based liquid metal, a nanocrystalline ceramic bezel and sapphire glass. The 1.5-inch LTPO display has a claimed peak brightness of 3,500 nits. These specifications are relevant to visibility and construction, although the advertised figures are not an independent assessment of durability or readability in every condition.

Away from diving, the watch includes an Expedition mode with imported routes and offline maps, dual-frequency GNSS positioning across five satellite systems, and golf tools. It also supports eSIM cellular calls in compatible markets and configurations. eSIM use depends on local service and carrier availability; having the feature does not mean it can be activated with every provider.

X-TAP supplements wrist-based measurements with readings from the fingertip. Huawei advertises a report covering more than ten parameters in about 60 seconds, as well as features related to blood oxygen, sleep and heart health. These are wellness and tracking metrics, not medical diagnoses or a replacement for professional care.

Battery life varies by mode and paired phone

Claimed battery life depends on use and the paired phone. For typical use, Huawei lists up to 4.5 days with Android and up to 3.5 days with iOS; with the always-on display enabled, the estimates fall to three and 2.5 days, respectively. The company also publishes higher figures for power-saving mode, which does not offer the same feature set as standard mode.

For specialised modes, Huawei’s Argentine product page lists up to 18 hours in Diving mode—or 12 hours with sonar communication enabled—40 hours in Expedition mode and 24 hours in Golf mode. These are manufacturer estimates for specific modes and should not be added together or compared directly with typical-use battery life. Active sonar reduces the stated dive-mode duration, a relevant detail when planning a long outing.

The strap and activity also matter: Huawei warns that some straps, including vegan leather ones, are not intended for swimming. Before buying, check the exact model, warranty terms and phone compatibility.

Price, availability and who might want it

GSMArena’s September 2025 launch report listed European prices of €899 for Compass Black and €999 for Ocean Blue, with UK prices of £799 and £899, respectively. The outlet also reported a temporary promotional coupon that expired on 7 October 2025; that offer has ended and should not be treated as a current price. Launch prices do not establish today’s price or the price in Latin America.

For a purchase, check the local official sales channel and the exact variant. European prices should not be assumed to apply in Mexico or Argentina.

The WATCH Ultimate 2 combines diving, expedition and sports-tracking features in a device with a zirconium-based liquid-metal case, ceramic bezel and sapphire glass. Features include sonar messaging and dive data. For everyday use, general exercise or notifications, compare the local price, battery life in the intended mode, phone compatibility and service availability—not just the advertised maximum depth.
